This resonates so acutely for me. I remember hearing over the pulpit throughout my teens and early twenties how blessed I was to have been saved from worldly pitfalls. At the time I largely agreed, and to an extent still do. And yet— the cost was my self-trust. Sometimes I feel like I waited hours in line for a roller coaster, only to bypass the actual ride and head straight safely down the exit ramp. Was I successful?

These days, I frequently find myself annoyed with my husband for not anticipating and preparing for every single negative outcome, for not optimizing every task. For being a human instead of whatever it is I have been trying to make myself over the past few decades!

I was just talking to someone about this. There is just no way to foresee every single consequence of every single action. Problems are just part of human existence! It’s a hard pill to swallow, and it’s hard to trust ourselves when we’ve been so conditioned to do the opposite, but very worthwhile. Great piece!
